Parts of Antonio Canova’s Colossal Horse arrived at Bassano del Grappa’s Civic Museum on 27 October, according to Antenna Tre’s on-site report. The return follows restoration and an exhibition at the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan, documented by the Civic Museums. [1][2]

The work is a large plaster model made between 1819 and 1821. The museum says it will be shown complete again, almost sixty years after it was dismantled. The restoration was promoted by the municipality and Civic Museums, with Intesa Sanpaolo through its Restituzioni programme and support from Venice in Peril Fund. [2]

Arrival does not mean the gallery has reopened. The Civic Museum’s main floor is closed from 27 October to 11 December for moving, transporting and assembling the work. The announced date for seeing the horse in its permanent position is 12 December 2026. [2]
