On 7 October, the Environment Agency announced completion of the main improvements to Lymington’s flood defences in southern England. Corroded tidal outfall flaps were replaced in September with high-density polyethylene and marine-grade stainless steel components. The wider scheme protects more than 140 properties, according to the agency. [1]

The two-year programme included floodgate maintenance, replacement seals and improved pedestrian access. A separate problem remains: floats on the valve regulating water in the marshes are leaking. The valve is temporarily closed and water levels may fall; repairs are planned by the end of the year when conditions permit. [1]
